Hi, I'm Jamie 👋
I'm a Yorkshire born cyclist, runner, hiker and (extremely amateur) photographer.
Raised in a city, my appreciation and love of the outdoors came after living in New Zealand throughout 2018. Since returning to the UK, I dedicate most of my free time to the fells, public footpaths and national parks of Northern England.
When not getting drenched, tramping through a bog or being covered in mud, I enjoy brewing coffee, craft beer and pondering over a good map. I'm also passionate about developing cities for people, not cars. This usually involves getting overly excited over bike lanes, trams and green spaces.
In my professional life I am currently Business Intelligence Innovation Manager at Barnsley Council, whereby I co-developed the award-winning Vulnerability Index with some amazing colleagues.
Prior to that, I worked in various research and IT based roles focussed on spatial data and open source GIS tools including the excellent QGIS, GDAL and PostGIS.
This blog is a hobby project and a space for me to experiment with web development. I intend on writing about subjects that interest me when I feel inclined to share something. At the moment, I don't intend on sticking to a schedule or any kind of regularity.
The blog is fully developed by myself in Django and PostgreSQL. The CSS is also mostly written by me, with the exception of the Open Sans font which is fetched from Google Fonts.
It is currently hosted on a virtual server provided by Hetzner.
